These XLS Bronco II’s are pretty rare. According to the 1984 Ford Bronco II sales brochure;
XLS exterior highlights include special color schemes, “XLS” tape striping in three colors on the lower bodysides and rocker panel molding spats. The grille and grille surround are completely blacked out as are the bumpers and bumper end caps. Deluxe wheel trim is standard.
XLS door trim panels are fully trimmed in cloth with color-keyed molding, carpet insert and map pocket, bright highlights, too. Deluxe steering wheel, instrument panel, and the flocking in the instrument panel storage bin are all color-keyed. And right up front sits a complete array of gauges for alternator charging, oil pressure and temperature, with the convenience of a resettable trip odometer, XLS is Bronco II’s sporting proposition.
This 1984 Ford Bronco II was delivered new in Texas and was acquired in 2017 by the current owner, who subsequently relocated it to New Jersey. Power is from a 2.8-liter V6 mated to a five-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case, and the truck is finished in Bright Bittersweet over tan cloth upholstery. Equipment includes the XLS package, power-assisted brakes, 15″ wheels, air conditioning, a cassette stereo, a CB radio, and an overhead console. This Bronco II is offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with manufacturer’s literature, a clean Carfax report, and a clean New Jersey title.
The truck is finished in Bright Bittersweet (2G) with black trim and is equipped with the XLS package, which added body graphics and extended lower cladding. Additional exterior details include a front-mounted tow bracket, auxiliary lights, western-style side mirrors, and a rear-mounted spare tire. The seller notes a ding on the passenger-side C-pillar, a scratch on the tailgate, and rock chips in the finish.
Color-matched 15″ steel wheels wear 235/75 BFGoodrich Radial Mud-Terrain T/A tires that show cracking and require replacement. Equipment includes manually-locking front hubs and power-assisted brakes with front discs and rear drums. Work performed in June 2017 included cleaning the brake master cylinder and bleeding the brakes. The seller states that a spare set of wheels are included in the sale.
The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in tan cloth with striped seating surfaces, matching door panels and carpets, and woodgrain trim on the dashboard. Amenities include air conditioning, a cassette stereo, a CB radio, and an overhead console with a map light and a digital clock. The air conditioning refrigerant was recharged in June 2017.
The four-spoke steering wheel frames a column-mounted aftermarket tachometer as well as an 85-mph speedometer. The five-digit odometer shows 28k miles, approximately 150 of which were added under current ownership.
The 2.8-liter V6 is equipped with a two-barrel carburetor. Work performed in June 2017 included draining the fuel tank and replacement of the fuel pump, accelerator pump, fuel filter, and spark plugs.
Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through a five-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case.
